Well since i got this .41 mag, ive been looking for a nice leather holster for it. Well its harder to find then i expected.

I found only one guy that hand makes them and for the one i wanted (with the bullet loops on the front) would cost me $125.00 plus shipping.

So i decided to attempt to make one myself. I went to "michaels, and Joann fabrics") to see what materials and tools i can find. So no stores had large pieces of leather, just scraps in a bag that was not enough to make what i needed.

I then went to the place where i buy my cowboy boots. They sell all kinds of western stuff. And i noticed they had holsters!! (But all of them were for "long barrels") like colt and ruger blackhawk. Most of them were "quick draw" holsters, but they were $39.99. Not bad at all. So i noticed they sell loose leather and all the dyes and leather work tools. What really caught my eye was a gun holster diy kit. Its by a company called "tandy leather"

so i found one that was for "up to" a 4" barrel. That way i know the gun would be a perfect fit. Also i bought a punch and sewing tool. The kit comes with the needles, belt loop, strap, button snap, and waxed thread. But i wanted to have 5 loops on the front to store 5 rounds. So i bought some leather and the special punch and sewing tool.

So i sewed the bullet loops on it (since the holster had to be opened see it all in. Then i sewed it all together.

Next you wet the holster and then put your gun in a plastic bag and press the leather to the exact shape of your gun.

Im about there with it. When it dries im going to put the dark leather stain on it.

Ill pist pucs when its all done!

Looks good.

Tandy Leather is pretty neat. They actually have stores all over with lots of leather (what else??) and they have a bunch of simple DIY projects as well. I go to the one in Jacksonville every now and then.

BTW, I like Febings but if you use straight neatsfoot oil and rub it in really good, and then just use the holster regularly, you know handle it and wear it and stuff, it will get a really nice dark brown color that is hard to replicate with dye.

K got it done , almost. Last night i stained it but noticed that the inner part of the snap button scratched my revolver when pulling it out of the holster. So i cut out the button and put a round piece of leather on it. I think ill stamp an initial on it so it looks better. I have to buy a snap and put it off to the side.
