To the OP...

What are you going to use as braces? For that much weight plus two people you are going to HAVE to have at least two. Otherwise the ladder will fold inward towards the tree sending you flying.

At least 2 for 12 feet.... I'd recommend 3 minimum for 20 feet. I'd still be nervous.

I'd also suggest welding another peice to the back of the chair part of the stand in the shape of a "V" to make a crotch around the tree. This will make it so the stand doesn't rock left and right as badly. Plus if you can cut groves into the inside of the "V" like a serated knife it will grip in to the tree better.

If I ever go huntin' with ya though... I think I'll bring my climber.

My buddy builds cell towers for a living and one time he brought a section of tower to climb up in. Never quite figgured that one out and I imagine it's still settin' right where he left it.

Stand is complete..

A little Background about my company...

I own a tower erection/communications company and we rig those tall towers up too 1700 ft, so when i got this wild idea it wasn't as hard to me as it would have been to some people as i have winches pulleys etc. I also have a fabrication shop , chop saws presses , punches the whole deal so drilling holes is eliminated :). We have mig and tig welders etc your basic full service fab shop.

SO we find a nice spot that can see the whole areas about 15 acres in front of the stand..

I have a rigger run up trim the areas where stand is to be and then riggs the the tree and tied off about 10ft above the desired location, we are going to trolley line the stand right to the tree.

Mind you i have a capsum winch mounted to the bumper of one of my trucks so walla a generator fires up and the rope connected..

WERE ON THE WAY !!!!

Once the tree stand gets to the tree we slack out and let the stand fall back into the tree , my guys start connecting straps and bolting for a collar that i have welded to the back of stand and grasps the circumference of the tree , tighten bolts up on bottom site tree on a branch stubfor support and walla its almost mounted.

We then add some straps from the top rail around the tree and wall all tied up. I then take some angle i punched that bolts to underneath front outside edges that then drop down and connect to the tree with some lag screws. This will support each corner of the stand so you can walk all the way around it and jump up and down etc.

So now we have this stand in the tree it looks great, and now the ladder. As one poster said it wont work.

In normal circumstances yes but not this application. After stand is in place we preload the stand up and then with this flat stock type ladder we bolt it to the front of the stand and measure down to ground and now the front of the stand is supported on this as well. The ladder rung has been left in to stop on ground leaving 10 inches of spikes in ground then ladder rung which stop when it hits ground and wont let it go any further and or slide or wash out from the climber.

Once that is all done the ladder has a support from it to the tree stopping all the wobbling . Its 20ft of flat stock and 1/2 round stock mfg for just this type of ladder. We mfg this at my shop when needed then sent off to galvanizing then to a customer.

I hope by now your thinking at least he did his homework.. Yes and i welded it as well.

The stand now was complete time to add some camo !!!!!

I ran out of the camo but i will pick some up.

So now that this is complete its 18ft in the air with a nice rigid ladder. Im 300 lbs my buddy is 250 and the only thing to move is the tree. I litterly can stand on the the stand and jump up and down.

The stand easily supports 700 lbs has a wide ass bench a rope lift. Now i just need a shitter 🙂

I now have about 800 ft of viewing area and 3 feeders that can be viewed from the stand

I kinda figured that if i was gonna do a stand like this i might as well do it right.

Below is a sequence , on my bucket page i have attached a load of pics..

Ok peeps hopefully after reviewing what was done you have a little more faith in me then before 🙂

Yea Yea i know some people have built things that would be scary as hell, but believe you me Im 300 lbs and had no prob runny up the ladder safely, with the brace installed from ladder to tree its as riggid as a 40ft slide up ladder.

As for the spot they avoid after being shot.. Well from what i have seen over the last few months there isnt any probs there as this or has viewing of about 5 acres of entrance that can be see as the hogs run in from land not allowed to be hunted about 800 acres to where we are and then back behind us is another 400 acres that we also have stand and feeders now running.

I am new to hunting dont get me wrong i will learn but i alos heard gobblers today just a hollering.

Im soaking corn in 5 gallon buckets of beer/water/stinky corn and hang up and down the viewing and trail lines where they enter.

I made this so my son and i could sit together and view this whole area as we can now hang out instead of being in separate areas
