Amazon Prime is a wonderful thing to have. I buy most everything these days from Amazon and with my Prime membership it's here second day or for $3.99 next day. Amazon is also cheaper in most everything.
We just set up Amazon Prime, and if you don't already know, a student discount is $39/year. My wife is in school right now, and it only takes an email account through a college based server.
I figure I can cancel Netflix (though Amazon does have a different library), save a few bucks a month, and use that free shipping now.
We tried Amazon Prime side by side with Netflix a couple months back and decided against dropping Netflix in favor of Prime. Prime just doesn't have the library yet. I think it's a good deal, but not as "standalone" as Netflix yet.
We dropped cable and Sat years ago and have been using Netflix since then. We are happy, but it could be better. I wish HULU and Netflix would merge.
That would be a nice merger. I am mainly dropping Netflix because I think it would be redundant to have it with Prime. Since we are getting Prime for $39, Prime wins for now. The majority of the time it is used for kid shows anyway. We dropped cable about six years ago and do not miss it. I prefer the control of Netflix and Prime so I can search for shows, rather than getting drawn into the crap TV offers.
Now if only internet prices would come down. I wouldn't want to return to dial-up, but I miss paying $10-$15/month for internet.
