1st let me say I have a compound bow that my wife gave me for X-mas a few years back. I took into the store, they set it up for me and in no time I became a pretty good shot with it. However I am no expert and have not really gotten into all the details of archery, I should spend some more time getting to understand the equipment at the very least.
My daughter (14 yo) has shown some interest in getting into archery for target practice, she is not interested in hunting and I don't think she ever will be for that matter(I guess she could surprise me). I am looking for opinions on picking up some equipment to get her stated. She has never shot before so I was thinking something simple, I don't want to drop alot of $ on something until I am sure she will stick with it. Any advice on something she could pick up quickly, be competent and have fun with? I see alot of products on the internet but I am looking for some firsthand experience.
I am really looking forward to sharing some target practice time with her out in the yard and if she takes to this like she did fishing, she will be a pro in no time.
Lots of beginner bows on Craigslist. I wouldn't spend much on one til she is for sure in to it. You can find lots of good youth/women's bows that are adjustable to fit. You can then bring it to a shop and have them set it up for her or you can go to bowtuningtips.com and let kenny parsons show you how to do it. He makes it simple for the everyday man. Have fun!
Don't know much about the youth bows, but I know you can pick a Bear youth compound up for about $65 at Bass Pro or Gander.
Take a look at the Diamond Edge . Nice bow made by Bowtech and is very adjustable. My son has been shooting one for a few years and there is still alot of adjustment left in the draw length. He should be fine with it for awhile yet, unless he wants to go up on poundage. I think his will go up to 60 lbs.
mathews misson line of bows would be good to check out as well.
