I would have added HK to that short list but they have safety's right?, don't want one on one of my self defense guns. for example a 1911 style 45acp is an awesome gun IN THE HANDS OF THE RIGHT PERSON that has put in countless hours performing drills and thousands of rounds down range. of all the areas in ones life to pinch penny's, IMO, a gun intended to save you or the life of your loved ones is not the place to start. now I'm not trying to be a smart azz here for a change, but dropping a pistol in your pocket and only shooting it maybe 50-100 x a year and expecting to be proficient with it under the most stressfull type of situation imaginable, more than likely facing more than 1 assailant and very possibly already involved in fisticuffs, taking your eyes off your opponent-s to draw from an ankle holster or dropping your hands to draw from a holster or pocket is going to leave you wide open. better increase that safety zone from the 5 feet you mentioned to about 25 feet. thats why I said at 5 feet a knife would serve you better.

FLDX, just buy the Judge, 410/45

Having carried since '96 I have used my gun 1 time, 2 perps, no shots fired. I guess if you put yourself in bad positions all the time you might need to carry an uzi, I don't so my .380 is fine for me...you can worry too much about crap, or just be prepared and legal, do it right and watch what is around you. Thank God most of us will not need a gun to protect our loved ones. Taco, I can move faster than you can and am as proficient, I don't need thousands of rounds down range...thanks though for your expertise.

well I fit the judge in my pocket, but I know what you are saying, but only 2 shots? good as a backup I guess.

you can fit lots of guns in your pocket, however a judge in the pocket is gonna be pretty bulky, unless all you wear are big baggy pants, you want something you can retrieve from your pocket without hangups, thats ALOT of gun to smoothly retrieve.
