Just my .02 cents on the Kel tec's

I had a Kel_tec PF9 as my first carry gun. I bought it brand new, in the box at at gun show. That was possibly the worst gun I've ever owned. It kicked harder than any hand gun I have ever shot. I could not hit the broad side of a barn with it, and it jammed with every single brand, grain and style of ammo I ever tried in it. Now I know it is a different model than you are looking at, but I would never own one again.

Now my buddy has a Kel Tec in .32 caliber that he has shot hundreds of rounds thru and never a bit of trouble

Once again, just my experience

my experience with keltechs is they need to be polished and tuned, my buddy did mine and it works great, I have never shot one out of the box unpolished and smoothed up. The .380 and 9MM do kick hard as they are the lightest models made, I added a hogue grip and the extenders on the magazines which give you much more control...My next will be the PF9.

These are not range guns for plinking in my humble opinion, self defense and only shoot mine to remain proficient.

I appreciate and listen to all the input....heres my deal....I know that if its not small enough to drop in my pocket...I probably wont carry it....so I need something really small and light.....my theory is....this is the absolute last resort, so if I pull it....its a five foot or less deal and Im gonna empty it probably....I gotta think its gonna hurt....I know it wont have the stopping power of a .45 but again, its a trade off....I have researched many many forums and posts, and hear really good things about the reliability of the ugly ass Keltecs.....one gun dealer sited a failure rate out of hundreds sold (and they do sell the heck out of them) of less than 3%....thats pretty darned good.....so I guess im gonna have to chance it. I do know a couple of fellas who carry them and like them....so we will see....again....I appreciate all the input....just gotta keep it reasonable (inexpensive) and small.

if you realy want to get serious about carrying 24/7 and trusting yor life with an auto, then for me it's a very short list glock or sig sauer. and even with them all it takes to stop one is a bad primer, which has probably happened to all of us at sometime with whatever type of firearm. even wheelguns can be stopped if a primer or bullet head creeps out and jams the cylinder, a lot more unlikely but possible. if you want something 100 % use a knife, at distances under 20' they are faster and deadlier.
