Good news and bad news...

Good news: I got permission. The property is 100 acres with no home on it. Looked owner up on Tax Apraisers page. Mailing address is about 45 minutes away. Went to an old run down home knocked on the door. Older man about late 60's opens door. Asked if he minded if I hunted his land. His response, "I'd rather not know about it". Talked to him a little more, told him I grew up across the street. He said just don't get hurt and have fun.

Bad news: Scouting around, it appears there are some other people hunting it. Found a brand spankin new climber and a tree stand that was just built no more than a week ago. Sap dripping, wood still got that brand new look. Little wallmart feeder set up filled to the top with corn. Looks like they are set up for this weekend.

I need advise on how I should handle this. Property is just a 100 acres, only big enough for one maybe two hunters. Property owner gave me the impression he wouldn't care who hunts it. But I got permission and I doubt they did. What would you do?

I would go back with a little thank you gift and ask if he knows of anyone else hunting there. You definitely don't want to have some guy strollin in on ya, or you in on him. Especially, considering you don't know squat about him/them.

Not such a good idea if you're alone. You could end up gettin shot, or your vehicle trashed when you go in to hunt. Best to find out from the old man if he's let anybody else hunt there. Bringing something along as a little thank you couldn't hurt either.

Go on the FWC website and print the form for permission to hunt private land. Ask the owner to sign it for his safety and yours. Then you can ask the other guys if they have permission. Even if he tells you that you have permission I would want it in writing. Good Luck
