Main thing is to look for in any Jeep is rust. Jeep frames are notorious for rusting out next be sure to check for proper 4wheel drive operation the YJ has a crappy vacuum acctuator on the front drive axle that engages the hubs, its prone to failure. If its a manual make sure you get it up to 5th gear the servos can give out and you can lose 5th gear. Don't expect fuel efficiency or speed I have the same year and motor and get around 12-13 MPG. They are fun as hell to drive and there is a ton of aftermarket parts out there to fix it up with.
i had a yj that the vaccum went out on the 4wd and i didn't know it was out til i was in the sugar sand in duette park. that sucked. my jeep has the original 150 ci 4 banger in it and it is badass for what it is. the other pain in the neck things to keep an eye on with jeeps is the speedometer and the fuel guage. every cj ihave ever had, both have gone out in. currently i have niether and have ran out of gas only once in the last 3 or 4 years. i use my gps as my speedometer and my odometer does not turn. i have 31's on mine and i get about 16mpg in mine. that was with a bikini top and windjammer in it. i think it would be a bit better with the hard top on it. have never checked it with that on there. this thread is actually talking me in to keeping mine, cause they are fun, and my kids love it.
Sammy's are the way to go, a lot better mileage, easier to fix, cheaper to fix and run, cheaper to buy. An entire engine kit to rebuild and give you a new engine is only 500.
Really good choice HogDaddy TJ's are nice, you will be alot happier with that 4.0 compared to the 2.5. As for tires I think you can fit a 30" maybe a 31" tire i'd look into the bfg km2 mud tires, good offroad and good ride on the street
Very Nice!!
