The Dropping Stuff from a Treestand thread got me thinkin. What kind of DIY stuff did you make for huntin? I took a 100' rope and cut it in half. Then I bought two round eye bolt swivel snaps.
I threaded the rope through the ring and used two zip ties to cinch the line down. Then I took some heat shrink and covered the zip ties so they wouldn't work themeselves loose or let the rope slip.
I then bought a few keychain rings.
I attached a ring to each of my guns where you attach your sling.
Now you can easily pull your gun up and lower it safely and have a rope that's thick enough to keep ahold of. My last rope was thin and it would get tangled easliy. This one is thicker and doesn't tangle easy. You can also pull your bow up by just attaching the snap to your bow.
All the materials cost me about $8. If you do this, be sure to melt the other end of the rope so it doesn't start to unravel.
What other things have you made???
I made a walking stick/shooting rest that I simply can't live without. Cost less than $3.
Take a piece of 1"PVC and cut it between 4 1/2'-5 1/2' long(depending on your height). Glue a PVC cap on one end. Drill a small pilot hole in the end of the cap.
Get one of the hooks that look like these. They are in the tool aisle at wally world or in the garage section at HD/Lowe's.
Screw it in the hole you drilled, paint the whole thing camo and you are done. Makes a great walking stick, and you can lay your rifle in the hook for a good rifle rest.
On the other end, you can put a crutch tip. Or you can put another cap/hook and use it in a ladder stand. Hook it on about the second ladder rung, and it is right at the perfect height for a shooting stick while in a stand
That's a good idea!
I also take my rope with me when I'm stalking. I killed a hog last year and it made it so much easier to drag. I hog tied the four legs together and still had enough rope to make a lasso handle. It's easy to drag when you can hold the rope over your shoulder and use your weight as leverage.
Can you give me the specs for that rig you setup to hang stuff from your hitch? My buddy works in a metal shop and I'm gonna have him make one outta scrap.

You need to get with MICK on that one. The one I have is actually from Cabela's, but he copied it and made them from there
ilth, thats a goodun. I will often zip tie an old closed cell seat to the shooting rest arm for a cushion, but my most used item is a thin bugee cord material tied in a loop like a big strong rubber band 1,001 uses. or take 2 1/2" nylon webbing about 6-8' long and have a saddle shop/shoemaker ( don't get me started on shoemakers ) sew a large hand loop on each end they work real well to lift gun/pack into tree or to drag/hang game
