never have really been lost before. I have a pretty good sense of direction. Never had a compass or nothing , even hunting out west in Wash. and Oregon. I have hunted with folks that didn't know how to use their fancy GPSs and got all turned around.
I think getting lost and spending a night in the woods would do most people good. preferably early in their hunting carreers. teach them an overnighter aint the end of the world, what essentials to have , not to panic and run around in the dark and risk breaking a leg or worse. long story short I spent a night out on a mtn above treeline in N.H. in my late teens, fortunately I had a sleeping bag and blonde coed along so it wasn't too bad.
