Just signed onto a new hunting lease in SE GA. It started out as 8 guys on a 1,000 acres and will expand to 12 guys on 2,000 acres come June 1. Spent a Saturday driving around a couple of weekends ago and liked what we saw. We will be prepping stands, feeders and cameras this month while we wait to get onsite next month and do some on the ground scouting.

I have never hunted timber land before and I am looking for some advice from you guys that have. None of the original members have hunted the northern piece and I believe I want to spend most of my time scouting this area out over the course of a weekend but want to make sure I don't overlook anything on the southern piece if something looks good.

Based on these aerials, where would you concentrate most of your time and energy? I am not sure if one weekend will do either of these 1,000 ac pieces justice but I have to start somewhere.

The arials are nice to find transitions from one type of cover to the other and funnel points. The two help with some of the leg work and give you a starting point to set up cameras to start the prosses. I like the clear cuts and the edges were clear cuts meet woods and were thick cover meets creeks. Animals are like us they don't like to go thru the thick stuff, but when the pressures on they will most likly stick to the thick stuff during the day. Clear cut on cold frosty mornings and evenings I have seen some nice ones out to get some sun to warm up. Good luck and happy hunting. If your on the couch and your not there, you can be the baddest hunter on the planet you will see nothing. (DAVEDIRT say, see know deer kill know deer.)

I really appreciate the suggestions.

I have a good grasp on the transitions and these seems like easy corridors to scout, regarding funnels, would you consider the following pics an example of funnels to set up on, or is this just another example of transitional corridors.

The last place I hunted, the funnels were dictated by extreme changes in topography or permanent water features, this piece is pretty flat.
