Never saw the need to pack a pistol if I'm hunting. For the life of me I just don't understand the logic of trying to pull a handgun whan I have a rifle in my hands ready to go. I've hunted all over America, Canada and Africa and have never come up against anything that I honestly thought I couldn't handle with the weapon at hand.

Now, if I'm actually hunting with a handgun, that's a different story. But to pack the extra weight for a chance encounter with a bear or coyote just seems ridiculous to me. I've shot several bear and anything that will kill a deer will kill a bear and I've never seen a coyote that would weigh 50 lbs so I wouldn't consider them to be a threat. As for snakes, they can only strike half their body length, so if you have 5 ft between you and them, then they're not much of a threat either.

Just my view mind you. Feel free to disagree if you want. :cowboy

i have my pistol with me pretty much all the time, but if i have a rifle or shotgun in hand, im not reaching for my pistol. i dunno, i guess it would all depend on the situation.
