Heading out this weekend. Tired of hunting Ocala Forest-bears nad no game-but need someplace from Ocala north to park a 30' trailer and hunt from there-hogs, deer. any suggestions out there??? :clap
What part of Ocala were you hunting?
Only public place I can think of north of Ocala where you don't need a permit is Osceola NF or west to Appalachicola. Either way, you're gonna run into bears there too.
I have been out to Osceola a few times. Seen some deer but nothing legal to shoot. There are free primitive camping sites but I would suggest camping at the Ocean Pond campground with water/electric/sewer and showers for 12-14 a night. Bring your fishing pole. They also have a free gun range at Osceola. I like it, it's just so huge I don't know where to hunt.
Another spot that would be slightly closer for you is Camp Blanding. I have never hunted there but know GG is open and you don't need a quota permit. I don't belive there is camping at camp blanding but may be able to find something near by. I know that in Lake Asbury about 10 - 15 minutes away there is a little campground called Lake Asbury Retreat. The number is (904) 282-4514.
And Appalachicola is another but quite a drive.
hunting lake delancy area. both sides of 1 nad around 88. usually campat Salt Springs. heard the same about hopkins prairie, used to hunt there also.
I've hunted off an on just a little south of Salt Springs. Knock on wood I haven't had any bear issues in awhile. Back in '99 it was eat up with 'em and I quit going there for a couple of years. My only grip is I was the only one in the area for quite a while and last year it suddenly became really popular, but that's the name of the game. I've always wanted to scout out that area of Lake D from the Ocklawaha bridge on the east side of 19. Nasty looking stuff back there and Caravelle is just across the way.
