I am new to North Central Fl. and I plan on hunting public land here for the first time this fall. I am from way up North where a good pair of hunting boots needed insulation and great traction on ice and snow. Now I am unsure of what makes for a great hunting boot down here. What do y'all think? Should I go for snake boots? I will need lace ups as I have rather thick calfs. Or are people telling me to get snake boots just locals trying to scare me?

Cheers

Mark

I occasionally wear my BassPro rubber work boot type snake boot when working around the property.
Not so much for protection against snakes but becuse it can be wet in some areas.
I don't do any stalking type hunts as I just simply go up my ladder and wait for a game to come to me so I usually wear hikers or even Kroc.

BTW. I remember hearing that snakes down here will not (can not?) strike when the air temp is below 45.

I usually wear Muck Woody Armor rubber snake boots till it gets real cold or at least wear my snake chaps. The snakes are thick down here. They're not just blowing smoke I assure you. Now if I'm only staying on clear trails to and from my stand I may not wear any of these but normally always do in the summer.
