The deer in west Florida have totally different routines in the summer and are not very predictable till late summer or early fall. Lots of things effect them, as you said, weather is probably a big factor, they like to be cool just the same as you and me. When we lived in Orange County, 40 years ago, you could always take a dog and jump a deer on the south side of a cypress pond if a cold north wind was blowing during hunting season. During warm spells, start the puppies down in the pond and they would find them in a cool spot.
Choice food sources during the growing season will cause deer to alter their routes and timing, just 'cause they know where the pea patches are and when thy will be mature!
I've only seen one little buck at our place this summer and he had the most unusual little, pencil thin, spikes covered with velvet.
