we all know a well placed shot with a 22 can kill game. from a strict ballistic/energy standpoint a lot would depend on the bullet wt and velocity. off the top of my head, energy loss and bullet drop will occur rapidly beyond 100 yds or so depending on variables: wt,velocity bullet shape bbl length. to answer your question, personaly I'd limit it to 150yds tops. granted Elmer was a gifted marksmen but he never bragged about the ones he missed or crippled that got away. and we have all heard of people killing/poaching game with pellet guns and 22's but that don't make it right. I do appreciate a largebore heavy/slow moving bullet probably more than the avg guy, but like them more for close up work. for over 150 yds your better off with a 308 or something similar imo.

agree with NG. I use a 44 mag. quite often. next Monday as a matter of fact. going to trapper dans. 44's do require good shot placement because u can ruin a lot of meat with a shoulder shot. but the game doesn't go far after being hit.
