My son and I went to Mallory wma today. Didn't see any new hog sign-2days old newest. Saw a yote carrying the mail through a small clearing but could not get the Contender up fast enough. He was bookin'. Saw something that really makes me sad. Puts a bad name on us hunters and sportsman. Saw an 8 foot gator, what I thought was sunning himself in the morning chill. A further look exposed a gaping hole over his right eye. Someone shot and killed him for sport. What a waste and tragedy. Like to catch these :ahole s just one time destroying our play area. :hang Beautiful gator. Looks like they shot him while sunning or sleeping on the bank. Never tried to harvest anything from the gator. Just shot him.
Anyways-bad day in the woods is better than a good day at work. Ya'all be careful

I'd lose it. That happened on a lease I was on west of Bonifay. Showed up a day after the start of the rut, and nobody from the club had been up hunting all year. Drove around the rest of the first evening looking to see where the deer were traveling most, and didn't see anything other than tracks. Then, the next day, I thought I heard a shot around 4am. But then thought maybe it was just the tin roof popping from the cold weather. Well, I got up and made it to my stand before daylight. Didn't see anything. Then, on the way back to the camper for some lunch, I drove by an area that was kind of out of the way on the lease and found a buck carcass laying on the side of the road (not a thru street). The head, hams, and backstrap were cut off, and it still weighed enough that it took me a bit of effort to drag it off of the road. That's when I saw the blood trail and drag marks leading 50 yards off the road. Some poacher came thru in the middle of the night thinking nobody was around. I swear on everything that's holy, that if I ever catch somebody doing that on another lease or anywhere for that matter, the only call I'm gonna make is to the local LEOs to report finding a dead body beside the road in a truck.
