kc45, all them legal critters around your plantation are in deep trouble! Good choice and a wise move to pick a 700 up as you did. Congratulations!

I chose that ammo specifically due to your recommendations.

Thanks.

Like I have said for years....shot placement (with a quality bullet) is what's important. Caliber selection is less meaningful. I love my 243

the 243 and the 260 are so close to each other no animal could tell the diff. both use 308 brass and the 243 a 6mm diam bullet, the 260 a 6.5 mm bullet, generaly slightly heavier. if your wife is having difficulty shooting a 260 a 243 isn't gonna be much if any diff. check the fit of the gun. if she can't keep it tucked into the shoulder and her face on the stock she is gonna get pounded. both are easily fixed. the 30-06 sounds like it's more for you, lol. if the wife is having a hard time with the 260, I'd keep her away from the 06, unless it fits her perfectly and she uses good shooting form.

My wife is only about 5' 1" and about 110 lb.
Physically she is small enough that she needs youth size stock on rifles.
She is not used to firing center fire rifles except her AR-15 in 5.56.
She does shoot a lot of 22lr and 22 magnum rifles and her 410G shotgun with cut down stock.
I don't think it's the recoil that bothers her as much as the muzzle blast.
If she ever gets the courage to shoot a hog she can do it with her AR.
