Black powder,
More for emergency actually. Not for treestand conversations. I'm usually with a friend hunting for a few days, but I'll go alone if they can't make it & the property I hunt is pretty secluded. So I'm just trying to prevent a worst case scenario if 'ol Murphy comes knockin. I've got the wife & lil man to get home to. But I see your point...shedding all the contraptions makes the adventure better. My uncle hunted/fished Alaska in the early 70's with the bare essentials. But I bet if handheld gps were a reality; he'd a had one in his bag...just in case.
It's funny how times do change. When I was a kid, dad and I would go off for a week-10 days at a time. We would call home about mid week and check on things. If there was a true emergency, there were a couple people mom could call that had phones up by our camp. I remember when we first got a phone at camp, and it was the stupid party line.
Now with a special needs kid and an elderly mother, I would feel naked leaving my truck w/o my phone. Plus if I am hunting alone, I always let my wife know and/or my hunting buddy know where I am going. maybe they can find me before the yotes and buzzards get there
I am a A/C repairman and I travel all around ocala and NO BODY IN THIS AREA compares to VERIZON
