I am a relocated avid Hunter from Ohio. I have been here in Florida for a few years now, and since I usually make the trip up north for Deer season, I have never hunted here in Florida. I own two great bird dogs (upland and waterfowl).

My boys are starting to get old enough to shoot, and since it looks like we are going to be here in Florida for the long haul, I would like to find some places for them to go out and target shoot, as well as find some areas to hunt with them.

I am located here in Clermont and would greatly appreciate it if someone in the area could help me out in pointing me in the right direction. I would love to buddy up with some guys that are familiar with the area, familiar with hunting seasons and strategies, and in general just hook up with some guys that share my enthusiasm for the outdoors and sharing it with our little ones!

Thanks for reading, and tread lightly!

Hello and welcome.

I can get you any info you want on anything.

First i would say you need to get your hunting license.

Before you do anything you need to take a "hunter safety course" Now if you did that in your home state you can use that to obtain your huningt license.. if not heres the link to the "hunter education"

http://myfwc.com/huntered/program.htm

Next you need to purchase your license. You can just go to walmart with your hunter safety cert and purchase it. Heres the link to "licensing"

http://myfwc.com/license_permit/index.aspx

Then you want to find where the WMS's are (wilderness management areas) Heres a link to all the ones in florida.

http://myfwc.com/hunting/wma/2008HuntMap.pdf

Then when you choose the ones close to you.. go to the individual area section and click on the one you want to hunt and all the rules and online literature is there. go here.

I hope all this helps. If theres any questions you might have just ask.. YOu can also see all the links on FWC on this forum onder "FWC" .

Thanks for the input. I am familiar with all of the internet information, however, what I am really in need of locating is a group of guys that hunt in this area that I can hook up with. It's a little daunting to walk out into un-familiar woods completely on your own!! Thanks for all the advice guys, and if anyone hunts this area (seems Greenswamp and Richloam are the closest public areas) then let me know!

You are a straight shot down HWY 50 to Croom WMA. Deer season ends this Sunday in there, but small game starts the day after. Hogs are legal. Me and some buds always do a camp trip up there about February or so. I just dont get over to Green Swamp or Richloam anymore
