So I had the opportunity to hunt a WMA this weekend and brought my buddy as a guest. As usual I was draggin a little and we didn't get there till almost 6am. We get to the first spot and park and two guys in the truck a little ways up the road ask us if we are planning to hunt down this particular trail. I told them yeah and he says he has a stand already setup in the same general area that I was planning to go into. I was nice and said we'd move to another area and we were off. They were nice and appreciated the gesture.
Off to spot number 2. After my buddy shot and lost a buck last week, I wasn't going to set him up in the area I wanted to hunt. We get to my spot and I point him in a general direction across the swamp. I give him my gps and tell him follow it to this spot and setup in that area. I get myself setup just as it was getting light and then text him to see if he found a spot. He says yeah.
A little after 7 I hear a shot in the general direction of the two guys we talked to that morning. Turns out they shot a 7 point. I'm pretty sure I know exactly where they were and I'm kinda bummed...
10am comes around and out of nowhere a fork horned 4 point walks right in front of me. Easy chipshot except they have to be 3 on one side or better in this WMA. He gets to walk. 10 minutes later a knubby little spike walks right by me.
30 minutes later my buddy texts me asking if I saw anything. I told him and he says I'm full of it. I told him I'm sitting till atleast 11:30. Well I sit till 11:15 without seeing anything and I'm getting hungry. I figure I'd hit my grunt call a few times and see if anything happens for the last 15 minutes. I hit the grunt a few times and 30 seconds later I hear a shot from my friends direction. I call him and he can barely talk.
I climb down and head his way. He says he shot a good one, but wasn't sure what happened. We look around and find blood. Now he's really freaking out. 50 yards later we find this...

160lb 8point

Old deer with barley any teeth left. After a few high 5's and me calling him probably every name in the book, we get him out and checked in. Called it a day after cleaning him and went home.

We hunted Sunday morning, but didn't see anything. Oh well. I was kinda jealous, but it was just as fun sharing that moment with a good friend. Oh, and that's the last time we ever hunt together... :tung

Your buddy needs to send you a nice Christmas card. And a nice bottle of wine. And a good cigar. Hell, I'd even send a hooker...
