Imo a deer right under the stand is a harder shot, esp with a bow, than one 20-40 yds away, due to the steep down angle. you're lucky if you don't hit the ladder. you had all the excitement with none of the work of dragging/skinning and butchering. if you had one under your stand one day you will likely see more nearby again.

Well, I ended up with a doe and learned a lesson not to be lazy. Aim for the vitals and leave the head shots to the pro's! Almost bagged a cow, but that's another story....

Neck shot. Or do as i did, shoot while yelling at son, get a crappy gut shot and track stomach crap through the woods in pitch dark while flashlight is dying. Lol
