an alert deer is tougher to get a good shot on no matter what!
I don't think a deer actually ducks the arrow,I think it's just a natural flight extinct when they here the release. If you follow what I'm saying,I'm confusing myself.
sound causes the reaction so yes u are correct
Speed of sound at sea level approx. 1116 fps (varies a bit with altitude, temperature, humidity, etc.).
At 30 yards (90 feet), any discernible sound will reach the deer in .08 seconds.
An arrow at 300fps takes .3 seconds to cover 90 feet. So a deer has approx .22 seconds to react.
Not knowing a deer's reaction time, I went Googling, and found someone had done the work for me a couple years ago in another forum.

In a nutshell, what matters most to me is the following:
At 20 yards: Only a bow slower than 247 fps would result in an impact out of the vital zone.
At 30 yards: A bow slower than 338 fps would result in an impact out of the vital zone!
At 35 yards: Even a bow shooting 350 would be out of the vitals!
The guy calculated deer reaction time at .08 seconds (as fast as speed of sound!). With that fast of a reaction, here's what he calculated a deer could move at various distances and arrow speeds.
