The FWC, has posted an article stating that it is still ok to hunt Big-Game Snakes during the small game season.
Has anyone been doing any of this type of hunting?
The article states that the mercury levels in the snakes are high and recommend avoiding eating the meat. but dont care what you do with the skin or the meat, so my question is this, as hunters and conservationists, what should one do with the snakes if they hunt them?
Ok the skins could be sold, or made into wallets or some other similar item, but what about the meat? it seems a waste to just throw it away
comments?
G
some critters will eat it, go back into the food chain. I don't like to kill what I don't eat, but have no mercy for poisonus snakes, leave the non poisonus alone though
Unless you have your ROC permit ( Reptiles of Concern ) or are going out with someone that has one you can not just go hunt for them. They say there is 100,000 burms in the glads but to date they have only killed 35.
That just goes to show you that the Grouper Trooper's don't know what the laws are.The reason for the permited hunter is they want info on every snake taken. GPS#, DNA, stomach content just to name a few.
What going to be great is when some yahoo goes out there and get hurt or worse because they are going to go kill some snake. And they walk up on a 15ft burm and before they know whats going on they been hit. This was the reason that they want people with a ROC permit. Just to give you a idea how fast they can strike. Blink twice you could have been hit 2x that quick.
