Anybody have any views on which is better? I have hunted both over the past couple years, but have spent more hours hunting as part of a club. The problem with clubs is that if you don't know the club members prior to getting in the lease, you never know what you're in for. The last 3 clubs I was in both disolved with no advanced notice, which left me and four family members hunting for a different game...a new hunting lease or another club. And, as we all know, decent land to lease is hard to find within the common man's price point. (hint hint...if you know of a decent lease/club available in Northeast - Northwest FL, I'd really appreciate the heads up. 🙂
The WMAs I've hunted (Fitzhugh Carter area of Econfina Creek and the still hunt area of Econfina Creek) were both nice, and I was lucky enough to pull quota hunt permits for both, but not being able to establish foodplots and preset stands really limits the number and quality of deer. And knowing who's hunting around me is very important. Like, I don't wanna find out after sitting all day that somebody set up upwind of me after I got in and decided to smoke all day (yes, this has happened more frequently than I could imagine). Thanks in advance for the input.
well the key is to find that wma that noone really goes to. I go to a wma up north and NOONE hunts there. I have never ever seen anyone there ever. I think one time i saw someone there. But thats it. If you can find that your good! Leases its good to meet with the lease holder and ask when the pay day starts.. Then pay at that time and meet with all members at the meeting then decide if its for you. And get a full year lease in writing so if they lose the property you get a little refund.
i have hunted in clubs in Georgia and didn't care for it, to many stupid rules, people putting stands up to close to mine or putting up damaged stands that no one could hunt anyways. We were required to have a minimun 3 stands. I then found one by myself 80 acres that i leased and we killed deer every year but 80 acres isn't much to work with. Now I have been fortunate enough to pick up 320 acres that I and my company lease, but I'm still the omly person on it. It is alot more work but, it will pay off. this is the second season i've had it. I've only turkey hunted WMAs and found it to be frustrating sometimes.
