I just picked up a new harness. i like-ed the eyes of my old but it was tearing. I picked up one that snaps together or latches however you like to say it. fast to get in and if you set it right facing away from the tree myself it should leave you around knelling height of your platform.
I will be selfish and say i do not want to find some ones dead or dieing azz in in the woods.
hunter safety systems are great. i didn't much like sitting in lock ons but once i got one of those, i feel safe. i will not climb up in to a tree stand without one. i want my sons and possibly my daughter to learn by example the safe way to hunt in a stand.
do you know why I started wearing one??? I doze off in the stand too much. I used to catch myself dozing and starting that 15' first step.
you have car/home insurance right, why not a little for yourself. your decision concerns more people than just you. who will care for or have to bury you if you end up wheelchair/bedbound or dead? I'm glad you can still climb into a stand at your age and hope you remain safe.
Re tree stand safety harness I have one but I stoped using it and heres why #1 I find them cumbersome and in the way especially bow hunting #2 I hunt facing away from the tree and if something should happen to my stand I would left hanging with my back to the tree and 79 years old
I,m not strong enough to turn around and clutch thetree and hanging there I would soon be unconsious
the crucifex (sic) effect I use good equiptment and select good trees and simply put I dont worry about it incidently I have been using climbers since the days of the baker stands and never had a close call I truely believe that most stand accidents are the results of dumb carlessness
this jjust my take on the subject
lol, that's like saying "I don't wear my seat belt because i'm fat and it's uncomfortable. I've been driving for a billion years and haven't died in a car wreck yet, so I don't need seat belts."
:wacko
