Sort of due west of the Pitman work center. North of Altoona.
Ok gotcha. Thanks. I'll look into it
When starting off hunting, pick one WMA that you can concentrate on and study the crap out of it on google maps/earth. Think like a deer. You need food, cover, and travel areas. Look for some areas that have all three. Print out some maps and go look a them on foot. When you find a spot you like, pick a couple different trees you can climb to hunt different wind patterns. If you do your homework, you should be able to drive to any WMA in the state and be able to find a good spot with deer sign in one hour
Check out the flag ponds....I would see deer munching in them in the middle of the day...
I hunt green swamp regularly the past couple years, as it is closest gen gun area i can hunt. there are a few hunters out there, but it is easy to find a spot where no one else is, you just have to walk a little farther than everybody else. I am not successful there as of yet, as i cannot put in a full day due to responsibility. however i am sure i could leave with a few squirrel, and even some dove just about any day of season. primarily i hunt hog deer and turkey. I hunted ocala a few times the first 2 years i hunted. If you are looking for deer ocala is the place to be. I was nearly successful my second trip to ocala when a nice 4pt followed a doe right to my stand, but i looked twice and the second time he bolted back the way he came leaving me no shot. the first deer rubs i ever found were in church lake area, around a flag pond on small pine trees. I had a lot to learn when i was hunting ocala, and would jump at the oppurtunity to hunt hopkins prairie again. If i lived in ocala my girl would be hard pressed to keep me out of the woods. Flag ponds are good areas to watch like bps says. i tried to find spots in the woods where there was a funnel near a clear cut and get back in the woods as far as i could. i never saw any deer during shooting hours in the clear cuts. always back in the woods.
