Living in Summerfield have you thought of hitting Ocala? Do your foot work and you can find some decent spots. Plus, its closer.......
GreenSwamp is pretty good. That's why so many folks go there. But year afetr year it consistently produces....
I wouldn't drive from the Ocala area there. I'd do like JBug said and get to know the forest like the back of my hand. I get to work there occasionaly and usually see plenty of deer and turkey. And all I do is drive around not really paying attention for them.
Dad and I would hunt there a little every year or so since it was close. I still try to hit it during squirrel season in the late spring just for sentimental reasons but I don't live near there any more and never feel the urge to drive that far when there's places just as good between here and there.
I've hunted a few places in the forest with no luck. Other than my uncles property which butts up to lake delancy
Ocala is BIIIIGG but there's some pretty nice areas. I don't hunt there so I don't mind telling what I see.
I've seen some nice deer in good numbers over near Baptist Lake.
And BTW, if you ever get checked by a Federal Officer (US Forestry) named Hughes, You'll meet one of the most genuine good hearted guys wearing a badge. He'll write you a $100 ticket, give a cold drink, and have you on your way saying "Damn that was a cool guy!!"
Not sure where baptist lake is. Gotta check on that
