Going down to Limestone, near Arcadia, with a couple buddies this weekend. I met a guy who has family that owns some land (not sure how much, but 50+ acres) down there and they say the place is loaded with hogs. The guy said their land butts up to a shutdown dairy/cattle farm, I think he said Velda, but I can't remember. He also said there are tons of citrus groves around him.
We are leaving earrrrrly Saturday morning to try and catch a morning hunt, hunt that afternoon/evening, camp that night, come home on Sunday, the Fourth. Taking some stink corn and I think I'm going to make a wallow too. Have a buddy with a couple feeders ready to plop in there, if need be too.
Should be interesting...I'm taking a buddy of mine with me, and the guy is bringing someone too. None of them have hunted before....should be a fun experience. I know there are an assload of hogs to be found around that area, so I really hope one of these guys puts one on the ground...maybe I can convert a few more of these cityfolks to the nice side of life. I'm also excited for the chance to try out my new shotgun, and maybe, if there are some fields, my .300 Wby:
870 Express Tactical with the A-TACS camo pattern. It came with a zombie-slaying breech tip, but I have a feeling I won't be needing that around the house nor in the woods, so I took it off. I really like the XS Ghost Ring sight system. I haven't used it before, and I'm surprised at how naturally you align everything and center the dot in the ring.
Good luck!
I like the pistol grip stock for rifled scoped bbls, slugs/buckshot and turkey. easier to hold/carry in the woods, helps with recoil. and realy isn't too bad for wing shooting either. got one for the benelli and mossberg, just hard to find a case it will fit in.
Limestone is ate up with deer, hogs and turkey. we did a 11 or 12 labor camps out there and there is a TON of game out there. i dont know if i have ever seen an area with more road kill than there. hopefully you will do well. my boss' son also hunts out there. they run dogs at durandos ranch.
We ended up hunting closer to Arcadia, but we saw lots of deer, especially does with fawns...but no hogs. Lots of sign though. Got poured on too, but oh well.
