I think there is a major difference between a guided hunt and a high fence hunt. I don't like these hunts where the "guides" already know what deer you are going to kill before you get there, and then charge you accordingly. I will not run anyone down for hunting a high fence because I support all hunting but it definitely not for me. And I definitely don't need these guys that hunt these high fence places telling me what great hunters they are. :2fingers
AMEN.
It's not very sporting. It' s like a Nikon just point and shoot.
I hate when they use the word "hunt" and not saying game farm.I have several friends that use these kind of places and get on them about a pay n shoot ranch. Some of the ranches are fenced with 20000+ acres but a fenced in deer is a penned deer even on that many acres. My friends tell me about seeing 30 to 40 even more bucks per day and have video of some of their hunts showing bucks all over.Feeders going on, 300 yard shooting lanes, trucks that they get on and cruise looking for good bucks all the while they are "hunting".These are the places that pay for genetics and have stringent rules on game taken!I have no problem with a guided hunt on wild free range game animals that you have to hunt for and there is no pay to kill tag.
Not all ranches are canned hunts, I think we need to re-word that to game farms and high fence.
I agree. A 15,000 acre ranch is much different then a 100 acre ranch.
Most of Africa is high fenced, hate to tell you. The African ranches are 100,000's of acres in size called conservancies, they are fair chase to me as the animals may never see a fence in thier life. I have hunted both high, low and no fence ranches in Texas for exotics and can tell you that on a low or no fence ranch the animals were calm as can be, made bowhunting easier as they were free ranging animals going where they wish. For the record low fence by my definition is a barbed wire fence animals jump over or go through at will.
I have hunted the high fenced ranches and they are very large acreage not a small pen. The animals in the high fence were weary and very jumpy, they do not just meander around without a clue or care in the world. They know they are being hunted and will stay on edge 24/7 and when you bow hunt you better be on top of your game. Exotic animals there have been around other animals shot and know humans are dangerous. Hunting within a larger ranch high fenced is a challenge and not a tie em' up and shoot em' up.
I would not disrespect anyone who is against fence hunting as well as anyone who is in favor of it. Being as things turn heated quick is a shame, generally for me if the fence has good acreage giving the animal full advantage then it is alright with me. I WILL NEVER hunt a pen because I am not into killing animals, hunting them yes but killing no.
Please give consideration to others hunting styles and relish your own, 98% of my hunting is done free range without a fence anywhere and I plan on keeping it that way. With that enjoy the day folks and I am off to hunt 25,000 acres of free range Illinois country for whitetails this fine day.
