They have he buddy system now ,so everyone with a quota also brings someone I guess. Or the FWC gives a lot more permits than what they say they do.

the public hunts are tough, but if you look around, you can find spots that people dont want to mess with, hunted green swamp last year and only saw 1 person from my stand all of december, hunting every sat and sun, morning and afternoon just gotta make the effort to get back farther. I hike at least a mile back from the roads, then start looking around for sign and trees to climb. Any one who has to get a guest permit just doesnt want to hunt alone. Guest permit rule is booo. If you dont draw a permit wait like everyone else. Scouted some of my spots from last year in ocala, and found stands hanging everywhere, time to get back further into the woods, which is tough without 4x4. However I still love public land. Only shot pigs so far, but I am a rookie SA.

Hey, keep it quiet. Let people think that the Green Swamp is a crazy place. :clap

Seriously, I've been hunting GS for years, every weekend, and never had anyone walked by my stands while hunting or seen anyone close to me. I've seen people at the aprking areas, but I usually introduce myself and try to discuss details of the general I'll be hunting. If I see thta it will be possible to have people close to me, I just go to another stand location. It is public land and you need to lear how to deal it it.

I agree with Lolo, the key to public land is being flexable, and willing to change plans/sites at a moments notice, it bites, but when you don't have a lease or private land or $$ for a private/guided hunt, what else can you do. I think I'm gonna break out my bucket again for wma hunts, easy and quiet enough to carry gear and keeps me comfy and off the ground
