Used to hunt in Alabama and this guy I would hunt with used a 7mm every time he shot a deer or anything I felt like it was freaking bow season all over again. Game would run for ever even on shoulder shots they still ran at least 100-150yds. He ended up trading it for a 870 and a .22
I think some one traded me one of those on this site and now they are junk???????
nothing wrong with the 7mm mag, if used with the right bullet for the game and distance. the 7mm08 uses the same diam bullet just slower and it works fine. In allens case I'm sure the placement was good but bet the bullet sailed thru without opening with a small hole in and out. it's just way too fast for close range with most bullets. great for out west.
Let me ask you 243 guys a questions I am just curious. A good friend of mine years ago shot a 243 he had a cousin that worked on a ranch and we hunted on the ranch on the weekends in cow pastures we had to make min 250 yard shots becouse of no cover what so ever. anything less that 250 to 300 yards they would run if that far they thought the were out or range. that gun was great for that but he tried to shoot a hog at about 100 yds. in tall grass he could just see the outline of his back, he shot the hog 4 times each time he would squeel and run about 20 yards and start feeding again after shoot deer at 300 + yards he was amaized he was missing them then finally the hog stepped out of the tall grass and he shot and killed him. when we cleaned him it looked like somebody was shooting him with birdshot the bullet was hitting the tall grass and coming apart after that it kindof turned me off from 243's. has anybody else ever had any problem like that?
