Private should not have tags. Its definitely up to the landowners.
I mean like locked gates, more patrols by FWC,and generally just keeping people out till a week before season to scout. I've been working out of town in Holopaw, Fl. south of St.Cloud and I have never seen so many large trophy buck deer walking around in bachleor groups, also large flocks of turkey and hogs everywhere. All on private property. I went to my club Sat and Sun morning and seen lots of deer,my buddy seen 4 bucks, just standing there looking at us. They are not bothered. Places like Richloam,Croom and otheres have people out driving around 24/7 and I know a guy who killed a giant 10 pt in Croom after season closed at night. I never seen the deer ,but I heard all about it.
when i went to chazz 2 weeks ago.. fwc had a road block and was checking for wma permits.. asked me if i had a firearm . i told him yep its on my hip.. he asked if it will stay there and i said as long as i dont get charged by a bore it will. im looking for pigs and i got my son. he said understood and i drove off.
wow a game warden actually understood that and didnt have a fit over it. im surprised "lol"
by law if the wma allows it you are able to carry a side arm on any wma property as long as the booklet says it. He just looked at me and knew i was not poaching.. lol.. i got a innocent face!.. plus i had my son and i have no idea what my son would do if a hog charge him.
tags work to a point. it is still alot of honor system. Georgia has a paper tag, to record deer harvest that is to be filled out prior to moving the animal. the flaw in their system is if you purchase tags online you can print several deer harvest records. filled your 2 buck tags, just grab a new harvest record and you are good to go again.
