Very nice!
I like that pond. We've been thinking about digging a fish pond at our place.
kc45, fish ponds are a lot of fun. We have 3 ponds on our little farm, one was here when we bought the place 40 years ago. It was stocked with channel catfish back then. My Dad bought 20 acres next to our place and had a farm pond dug in the mid 70's that he never lived to fish in. Then we dug the one in the picture to eliminate some standing water issues in a pasture. It is fed by 2 shallow bottom ditches, one of which is actually a "channelized" creek bed, that terminate at a small black gum pond. Here the dozer man dug 6' deep ring around the trees and created what our kids call the "island pond". We never stocked it but is full of fish. We've caught bream, warmouth, catfish and bass, good place for the grandsons to fish. It is a black water or red water pond, the other ponds usually have quite a bit of turbidity, probably from the clay base. It is not unusual to see deer sign around the ponds, lots of coon tracks and occasionally a duck or two.
sam03, thanks for the kind comments!

Clover/corn food plot Day 57
Started raining this morning about 9AM, by 3PM our gauge had 4.0" with more to come. It slacked up enough for me to ramble around for a look-see this afternoon. Lots of water everywhere, good for the crops that are growing. The food plot corn is doing well, doesn't look as good as last season but it will probably be of interest to Bambi and Company in the fall. As mentioned in earlier posts, the clover is going to have to be replanted in late September. The worst part about the fall planting is not having a green crop for the deer to browse on , like oats, etc.. but from past experience the clover is well worth the wait.
Pictures for this week show the 2 sides of the plot, the corn doing ok and what clover there might be, totally covered with crab grass. The other picture shows a peanut patch and the boiling clouds from this weather we're enjoying today. This little field was planted on the 22nd of June. Volunteer peanut plants from last year kept several deer entertained in this field up until they planted this years crop.
Happy 4th of July to the FOHAF family! :gba
