Clover/corn food plot Day 43

All I can say is the corn is growing, the crab grass is growing where the clover should be and we have been blessed with several 1/4" rains this passed week. Hot and muggy, good corn growing weather. Thought about mowing the clover side but that would leave the mowed grass in mats and that would not be good if any of the clover survived the dry spell in May. Think it best to let it go and later on in the season see if there's a stand established, if not it will be to replant in the early fall.

Game camera has no activity recorded this week. Need to move it and put it by one of the ponds where some kids have been riding their bicycles in to the water. Took a while to figure out what had made the bank so tore up :dtect . Showed it to my wife and she said "Looks like bicycle tracks to me." And I said, "Kids ain't that dumb, to ride their bicycle into a pond." She said ,"They do all sorts of goofy things on TV with their bikes, so why not?" Later we saw rained-on tracks in the edge of the corn patch showing the direction they came from, oh well...

Pictures show this weeks growth of the corn and what a fertilized patch of crab grass looks like πŸ™ .

Clover/corn food plot Day 50

We've had two rains since last week totaling 0.85" which is good for what's growing. It sure makes the grass in the yard grow! The farmer that is using one of our fields got the benefit of the 0.85" of rain on some late peanuts he planted last Saturday afternoon. The few quail that remain in this country are paired up and it is good to hear them calling, especially in the early morning while we drink our coffee on the porch!

The corn is growing, bud worms are working and the clover ,if it's there, is completely covered up with crab grass. You can see where something has walked through the grass, probably our dog. Really believe the clover will need to be replanted when the hot weather starts to let up in late Sept. or early Oct. Haven't quite admitted defeat, but it looks like the dry May and the crab grass are probably the winners of this round. What it amounts to is there will not be a stand of clover to draw the deer for this years hunting season, but there will probably be enough corn to draw a few as it did last season.

The corn planted north east of the shooting house on "new ground" is amazing in its' growth. Most of it will be harvested for seed and to make corn meal. It too was all red seed. Wait and see.

Climbed in the shooting house this AM for a picture or two and found a few "squatters" camped out in the top of the house.
There's always a big battle in the shooting houses right before hunting season. (A fresh can of wasp spray always seem to be advisable.) Pictures for this week show "the squatters" in the house, the corn/clover/crab grass plot and the corn north east of the shooting house and pond.
