This is one of the reasons I stick to deer doggin'. I've seen a wounded buck hook a dog once but it didn't kill the dog. Those cutters on a boar are bad news when they get ahold of flesh :death
Iluv2hunt is right, alot of the bigger bucks are hard to kill and can throw a pack of good dogs on another deer or lose them quickly. We jumped the same 9pt last yr 3 times before taking him out and I know another hunting crew ran him 2 times also.
I still say it's easy with a good dog/dogs.
I have to disagree. I spent many years deer doggin and got out of it several years ago. I killed a lot of deer doing it, but I have killed a ton more sitting in a tree stand. I will assure you it is not easy as you think. The deer are usually running, giving you very little time to put a good shot on them, as well as get a good look at them. And a smart buck will 9 out of 10 times throw a pack of dogs, leaving you to hunt dogs. I came home a helluva lot more tied from dog hunting than I do stil hunting
lol here we go again. I was talking about hog hunting. I have no idea about deer dogging, never done it so I have no opinion on it.
Bottom line is that we're all hunters and need to stick together and fight for each others rights. If we lose dog hunting they will go after still hunters.
Agree completely!
Well my bad, I didn't re-read all 5 pages of this. I've been in the woods the lastthree weekends getting ready for season and haven't read every post on here. But my opinion still stands on the deer doggin
Any of us that have messed with a few good ones up close and personal wear the marks to prove it. Never been cut in the head though. Been ran over, knocked down, treed, hooked by the chaps and tossed 5 or 10 feet. Maybe its not hard but it sorts the men from the boys for sure. Something to be said for going into porkys turf with your pards and making him squeal like a girl. Or a good one making you and your pards squeal, for that matter.
