Sandy is a blackmouth cur not quite a year old. I also have a year old black and tan that starting to come on,and a 2 year old plott that is doing well. My old plott gyp is 11 now and is about done, she's getting cataracs and has a bad hip. She is very cold nosed and barks every time her feet hit the ground. Also have a 6 year old male plott that does well. I put my old gyp on some good sign Sat morn and she straightened it right out and started trailing south. I dumped my box with her and they were all hitting good. Went to the next road south and here they come, entire pack screaming,I got out with my shotgun in front of the truck my kid was on the box watching behind when about 10 hogs crossed. They ran them for about 2 hours, bayed once then ended up putting a few 20 lb shoats across the road so we caught the dogs up. As far as training the young dogs,I just let my old dog find them then just add to her when she gets hot.Did a little work in a hog pen over the summer. Also have 3 Plott pups that are 4 months old now,,I'll start bring them in a few months.

Sounds like y'all have a great time! It's great to read about guys keeping the traditions alive, doing things right. Y'all talk about them dogs like other guys talk about their bows or rifles, knowing every aspect of what makes one good or bad, or what you prefer over something else. But with dogs it goes deeper than that, as you seem to genuinely love the animals and take care of them, form a relationship that you both benefit from. I just know those hunting dogs LOVE being out there, whether it's running pigs or deer, or pointing quail, or recovering ducks. It's in their blood and they live for it. I pity folks that don't understand how it works, that you aren't forcing the dogs to do something they don't want to do. When a dog is bred to do something like a hunting dog is, it's abusive NOT to let them get out there and do their thing!
