Hey crackerbull. I got a question. Ok i saw you use pitbulls for hunting. Now im new to being in an area with hunting dogs. Now When you let your dogs go they go get an animal. Now what the heck do i do if im on a trail and see two vicious pitbulls running twards me? I was thinking this all last weekend when i was hunting close to dogs. Will they attack me or just stop and bark at me. Cause in most cases if there are two pitbulls barking at you most peoples first instinct would be that the dogs are about to attack them and act. Now i know that these dogs are trained to get hogs.. But are they trained to not get humans? How can you train a dog to only get hogs and just ignore human hunters.?
i will defend myself nomatter what is coming at me human, dog, hog, cow, deer it does not matter. but that is something to think about i would hate to shoot someones dog because it started chasing me and not the hogs or deer. now dog hunting is something that i have never done and i would like to soon. im not saying anything bad about it. i wonder if what crock is talking about has ever actually happened...
I know its a touchy subject.. But i just dont know if the dogs are trained not to bite humans or when do you wait to see? when the dog is locked on your leg.. IM confused. Im going ot shoot crackerbull an email and see what he says.. I konw he uses pit bulls for hunting and i would like to know the facts. IF anyone here would know he would!
Very touchy but years ago when I was able to do lots of hunting I have met up with hunting dogs crossing my path.I have never had to take action but I did carry a small can of mace with me for the chance occasion that if needed I would use it.
The reason I started doing that is one year on a pheasant hunt I was attacked by a guys airedale dog when I grabbed my setter from his dog.The dude and I mixed some words after I beat his dog with my shotgun and I said your damn lucky I did not kill it.I was shocked when this dude just said hey if your dog cant handle it you need to put that worthless mutt down. All I said was you dumb hunter,my dog was doing what it was trained to do hunt! But now the spray came into play and it has worked with coons coyotes and a bobcat so I think it would work or help with a aggressive dog too!
it doesn't matter where you hunt. even if it's on a dog "hunt" WMA. it's still open to the public, even if you don't "hunt" with dogs. bottom line for me. if ANY dog comes at me while i'm hunting. it's dead.
