My buddy has a closed mouth female....that dog drops it into gear sometimes. She had a little of pups and hasn't really wanted to hunt since though. He's getting sorta frustrated with her.
I never understood why somebody would want a closed mouthed hound. It takes away from the breed and what they were bred to do. A hound should have a bawl or chop on track, curs are silent dogs.Vaughn Plott spent a lot of years developing this breed to do what they do.They do make great hog dogs,I've also shot a few of them. Most treeing breeds of hounds like treeing walkers,black-tans,blue ticks make good hog dogs. Problem anymore is people get one that sucks and they keep on hunting it or trying to hunt it and never have any luck. Then they breed them, then you get a market flooded with shitty dogs. Was a time if a dog didn't hunt,it didn't get fed very long. I still follow that rule.Somehow about 12 years ago I got into the plott breed and love them. They are some gritty, hard headed dogs, but they will stop a hog. I can't tell you how many I have had caught and couldn't get in quick enough before they killed the hog.I've had a pack kill a 200# sow before.
Wow I did not know they had appy hogs. lol she is a cool color. good looking dogs.
