Lot of tough hunting,lot's of water and trying to get under one. Finally happened Sat afternoon. My dog bayed a diller and pizzed me off pretty bad . With a little correcting and a long talk with her I think she understood what I meant. A few minutes later my cur dog disapeared and my diller dog started chopping. They caught a small pig right away. Then they took off again almost out of hearing,listened a minute then heard the squealing.We took to the and after a 500 yard run they had about a 70 lb boar caught. I legged him and Carlos put the steel to him.I never knew how fast Carlos could run thru the woods.I was walking my two dogs back to the truck and they winded another so I cut them loose and they had a good race for about 30 minutes and put a good sow in front of my buddy who shot her when she hit the road.

Yea man.. Thanks Jeff. Id like to start and say that Skunk ape is a great person and a blast to hunt with.. His whole camp of (dog hunters) were very welcoming and a great bunch of people. This weekend gave me a whole new view on Dog Hunters. I seen the real deal and realized that its not as easy as i thought.
You really need to experience the dog hunt to understand it. Basically I have a whole new respect for it and if i had the money i would definitely get a dog and start dog hunting (AND still hunting).
Well heres the story. I met at skunkapes house thurs night and we headed up to his hunt camp. Went to sleep and woke up in the morning. Got up at about 5:30 and headed out. He was gracious enough to show me around his lease. We ran the dogs a few times and nothing. So after running the dogs and picking them up we finally decided to give the dogs a rest and drive around. Jeff spotted a BIG boar hog at about 200 yards. I said "just stop ima put the stalk on". So he stays parked and i walk about 50 yards of it and it moves off the road into the ditch next to the road.. So i put up the gun and when it gets in the sights i shoot the 3030 and it hits and the hog stumbles and turns around and walks fast the other way.. I see her about to cross the road so i get on one knee and scope it. At this point he was running across the road. I didnt see it that good since i was glassing her but i shot her again as she crossed the road and jeff said i hit her again. He ran into the nastiest stuff you can think of. We got out the dog and start trailing. I saw a blood splatter so we kept walking but she was still walking off and finally we lost her. It happens and i accepted it.
The next day we were running dogs again all day. I was learning how to tell what the dogs were doing from their barking. So finally saturday afternoon we heard the dogs singing their song, then we heard a squeal. We ran up and it was a "bomb scare" pocket pig bayed up.. LOL.. so jeff let that pig go and soon enough we heard the dogs singing that song again with a loud squeal and i heard jeff say "COMOM CARLOS lets go hurry!!" So i was behind and when i got there the hog was bayed and the catch dog had her down. Jeff said "go ahead man do it" and thats it.. First knife kill. It was an adrenaline rush. You definitely have to be there to feel the feeling that dog hunters get. Its a different feeling and a great experience.
