Now, I ain't sayin that I ever did it for fun to make some critter suffer, not even once. Just that deer hunting there was kind of a joke. Kinda like hunting cows at a petting zoo.
The throat cut is not a quick way to dispatch game.
I hear that. I keep my .22 revolver with me for snakes, and instances just like that. One quick one in the ear usually does it.
Yeah, unless you get the blade into the nerves in the neck, they just sit there and suffocate or gurgle/drown in their own blood. If you are going to cut it's throat, you need to pretty much decapitate it....otherwise put one in it's brain or shoot/knife it's heart.
I spineshot a doe with a muzzleloader and she sat there and bleated. I was trying to reload so fast that I broke my ramrod and had to use my knife to finish her....just couldn't take the bleating anymore. I was pretty young and was mildly traumatized, though I had a clear conscious about the situation.
For some reason, I don't share the same feelings for hogs. Not to say that I want to make them suffer or I don't go out of my way to end it quickly. But, the sound of a hog squealing while a curdog and a pitbull play tug of war with each ear doesn't bother me too much. The dogs work hard to find that hog...they deserve to get them some too.
I think the GW would have no problem with it on private land, but I think the man would be on a WMA.
