don't know about on public land, have never deer hunted it, just from pics and talking to people it just seems like the deer don't get a chance to grow. take what you can get, before somebody else does. on a lease especially where i'm at , i'm the only member, i can say, i will let this one walk. see what he looks like next year. can be more selective with my shots. i don't by any means just start shooting or slinging arrows. if i don't have an ethical shot, one i thnk won't make them suffer, i will just watch 'em walk away.
thats how i feel.. im really trying to focus on my 40 yard shot. thats the furthest i think i would ever take a shot at a deer IF I WAS CONFIDENT. right now im not confident at anything over 25 yards. practice makes perfect.
with my guide gig, i see alot of bad shooting. gun and bow. it bothers me, that people will make a bad shot instead of waiting a couple more minutes for a better shot. or not shoot all, let them go by and stalk them again trying to get a better shot. sometimes it is my call, to tell them to shoot, but if i'm off to their side alittle , i have a whole different view.not seeing exactly what they are seeing. once in awhile someone will tell me "gotta wait, don't have a clear shot" and that is all good.
Practice taking shots too from your stand in a tree. shooting from up in a tree is way different then shooting on the ground
i shoot from the roof of my house into the backyard. started that last week. do it every year acouple weeks from bow season. crock can't do that. can't shoot a bow in Pinellas Cnty. not supposed to anyways
