When do you all think its not good to take a bow shot at an animal?

I feel that everyone shooting a bow should be killing the center at 25 yards no matter what.

I also feel if you can hit a paper target (the size of a normal piece of paper) at up to 40 yards or your yardage of choice beyond 25 yards you should be able to take the shot at an animal. the kill zone on most animals is about that size.. What do you all think about this subject.?

my comfortable range is about 30 - 35 yards. if i get a good broadside or quartering away shot. that is the hard part with a bow, i believe. I would pass up more bow shots than I do gun hunting. not just from yardage but on kill zone location and what position the deer is in. it gets tempting though, up in that tree with your bow and everything has gone your way and out steps a NICE buck, but he just isn't giving you a good shot. you start asking yourself, I think I can thread it right in there. i would rather let him walk, might run into him again during gun. but of course the rules probably change alittle on Public land. if you don't get it someone else will.

yea but on public land you dont wanna just take shots hoping they are gonna work either. Half of the "hunters" in the woods today do that and they never find the deer

I cannot even begin to state the # of times I have drawn back on a deer or hog, and had to let down. On the public land I hunt, I can only make a 20-25 yard shot max. That is not counting all the branches and crap in the way. Generally I like to be in the 10-15 yard range of my animal. And if there is any obstruction I pass.
In my lease, it is a little more open terrain. On a perfect scenario (broadside/looking other way/no obstructions) I will shoot 40, but it has to be perfect My general rule is 30 yards

When is it a good idea to not shoot???
If there is any question that you might not be able to put your broadhead in the killzone.
