those are sight pins, but appear to be VERY far apart one is set for a specific range and used like the front sight on a pistol the rear sight would be the string or a peep sight set in the bow string (what most people seem to do now).
Looks like you need to spend some time at a pro shop and let them walk you thru everything. Getting the bow set up to fit YOU is the most important step. If its too short or too long, you will develop bad shooting form and it is hard to over come, and you will never be a successful shooter

Sounds like you need to spend some time with someone who reall knows what they are doing. The worst thing you can do is try to see if you like archery with antique equipment that does not fit you...
Be like trying to see if you like cross country running and wearing a 20 year old pair of hiking boots 3 sizes to small
