anyone try loading hornady's leverevolution bullets in their b/p gun? any idea how many fps they need to function well?
Leverevolutions are made specifically for lever action guns. Has flexible tip for safe loading.
Hornady does make muzzleloader rounds
just like the hornady xtp bullets are designed for pistols they work fine in a mz loader when placed in a sabot, it's just a theory for now, the 444 caliber evolution bullet is being sold seperately, and should fit in a 50 cal sabot designed for 44 cal bullets, right? my only real concern is what velocity the evolutions are designed to open up at, too fast ,or too slow and the performance suffers. and are the evolutions any different than the polymer tipped mxl bullets?
what you need to get wich is the same bullet is the ftx. its new too. also i know two guys who have shot the leverlutions and they shot great grouped great sucked on hogs!! (not deer season yet) entry and exit hole the same size no expansion one was a 444 the other a 30 30 both shots broadside just behind the plate. no recovery of bullets but you could clearly see no expansion and defenety no energy transfer on the hogs they both died less than 50 yards and shots were about the same. do a few searches on them there are other guys sayin about the same on the ftx and the levers. now the xtp's blow holes and drop things quick and clean!
yeah the xtp's open up easier & at lower velocities, thats what I was afraid of the evolution needs more velocity to open properly, or to hit something more solid. the best I've found for rapid expansion/energy dump, yet holds together for good thru and thru penetration, leaving a good blood trail is the nosler partition, thats all I load in my rifles now. havent tried them in a muzzleloader yet.
