I have a CVA Omega. I have clean it good every other shot. Shooting Trip 7 pelets, 100 gr. with Hornady XTP 240 Grain bullet. Shooting 5" groups at 100 yds.

What is a realistic group that most are shooting with there muzzleloaders. Is 5" group acceptable, or should I be looking for different ammo/loads?

scope or open sights? I would think you could do better.

M/L's are very bullet sensitive. The Omega is a very accurate gun, but may not like those loads. I have 2 CVA's that will not shoot Barnes bullets, but will tack drive Shockwave's.

Try another bullet first before you do any changes.

I can get 2 1/2" groups at 100 yards with open sights and a patched roundball. (benched)
ML's are bullet sensitive and powder sensitive, Pellets are junk, IMHO. Convenient, but junk.
It gives you no way to fine tune your load, Next purchase buy powder, start at 70gr and work your way up 5 gr at a time till you find what your gun likes.
It could be it does not like the Hornady bullet, If memory serves me that is a long full bore bullet with no sabot, correct?
If you could get those to fly I would stick with that, Its bad enough with the lead and copper fouling, plastic fouling can be a bear to get out at times.
You could try the Powerbelts, They have mixed reviews on performance but accuracy seems to be good with my experience and most accounts I have heard about them.
Remember its ALL about bullet placement, A sharp stick will kill if you put it in the right spot.
Also, How old are your pellets? If they have been open for a while you could be getting inconsistency from that, I have had bad experience with 777 that the pacage has been open for extended periods of time.

I've always heard that the pellets degrade, and I've had some 777 pellets for about 4 years that still fire just fine (or they did a few months ago) but may be hurting overall performance. Any suggestions on a safe, fun way to get rid of the pellets other than shooting the up through a m/l? Don't want to just throw them out!
