I got in the stand a little after 6 AM, and let everything settle down, nice morning, cool and misty, quiet. About 9:30 I stand up to stretch and take a squirt, and hear a loud snort maybe 30 yards behind me in a thicket. Never saw the deer, I guess it heard me. Anyway, I decide to move my stand to an area that I scouted a couple weeks ago. It is an itersection of game trails, behind some planted pines close to a small pond.
I got my stand set up back there, got settled in, and waited. After a couple hours, I heard birds behind me start screaming, and stood to have a look in that direction. I didn't see anything, but I started looking at the tree my stand is hanging on, Its an old pine with very rough bark, and behind a crack in the bark I can see legs sticking out. These aren't mammal legs, like a squirrel, they are bug legs, like a spider. This thing is right above my head when I'm sitting in the stand.
Right here I should explain that I hate bugs, they skeeve me out. I would rather wrestle a gator in a pool full of snakes than walk into a banana spider.
So, I reach in my pack, grab my DEEPwoods OFF, and give this critter a squirt. This thing comes out of there, and I don't know what it is. Its about 6 inches long, looks like a stick, and has 2 smaller stick monsters hanging on its back. I gave it another squirt, and one of the little ones falls behind my seat pad. I looked behind the pad, and there must be a dozen of these freakin" things hanging on the tree. I give them a good squirt, and when they come out I smack them off the tree with the spray can. As soon as I cleared the area around the binder, I got the stand off that tree and moved it to a tree that seemed free of alien monsters.
Didn't see anything after that, but I'm not surprised after all that noise and the smell of bug juice all over.
