Another year of not pulling the permit. Since I'll be leaving the state next May on a new set of orders, it looks like a Sambar just isn't in my future.

Gonna apply next year for the Sambar hunt. I did get the ML hunt on St. Vincents in Jan. though. 1st time there so if any one has some advice I'd be happy to hear it. Going with a buddy who's been to the island a few times. 😎

watched a show/ video from there on utube. also know one person that hunted the place bow hunted seen the deer got pics of them but never got close enough for a shot. they go to the shore line and marshes at low tide to eat. so stay neer the water for them.

I would love to go hunt these deer, just in Australia not Florida. My father in law swears back in the early 80s near Indian Pass (by the island) their deer dogs jumped a sambar and came to a bay in the marsh and they had to go catch the dogs off it.

I've come across a few Axis deer (bucks) in the panhandle on Econfina Creek WMA that obviously escaped from the nearby petting zoos, er, um, I mean game ranches. Of course, at the time, I didn't know that's what they were and couldn't see the horns until it was too late for a shot. The spots got me all mixed up. Wasn't sure what it was at first, but the GW told me on the way out that there are several on the property, and now and again a hunter will get one. They get out of holes in the fences when trees fall over on the "zoos".

So if they are in the WMA and its legal hunting season, you can :2guns one? That would be a pretty good campfire story :toast
