I thought I'd never say this, but I'm about ready for hunting season to be over with.
This has been my most rewarding season ever, as well as one of my most frustrating.
I killed the biggest deer of my life, but I have lost a lot of game. That is VERY unusual for me.
Yesterday afternoon right at dark a hog steps out at about 350 yards down the road from a box stand I was in. I had a good rest. I had the rifle on a cushion, my elbow resting out the window. I put my 300 yard reticle on his shoulder, held my breath, squeezed......The hog fell.......
Got up and ran in the woods.
Darkness was almost here so I had to work fast. I ran down there and it was like a murder scene in the road and a blood trail a blind man could follow. I figured he would be laying within 50 or so yards. Well, 150 yards later I was still on good bright lung blood and out of daylight. I ran back to the truck and got my handheld spotlight and smaller flashlights. I got back on blood(by now its DARK). I blood trailed for a while longer and it started to get real spotty. The blood trail forked off and went into "tunnels" that hogs make underneath brush......
So here I am an hour after dark looking for a hog on my hands and knees by myself. I finaly lost the blood trail. I just could not tell which way it went and was about to get turned around myself. I had to abandon it for my own safety. Had it been cold last night I would have gone back this morning, but it was 70deg last night and rained this morning...
I really hate to lose an animal. I have been fortunate in my hunting career to not loose much, but this year I have lost three hogs. One with my bow, one with the ML, and now one with my 7MM. They were all killing shots, they are just tough resilient animals. I hate it, but life goes on........
I am ready to dust off the fishing rods
I am ready to dust off the fishing rods
That sounds good to me. 😀
Early this season I about gave up. I hunted the Everglades on opening weekend and I got caught in a nasty storm(lightning hit a tree 30 feet from my tree stand) And I dropped my bow. The following weekend I hunted Webb and shot at 3 nice bucks and missed all 3. After scouting for 3 months. One I shot at 3 times and missed. I finally realized my bow was fuked up and was shooting low. The next day I shot a nice boar. I was so over it and frustrated. I spent months shooting my bow to have it all go to hell. Thats hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats all I can say. I am glad I didn't give up because this was one of my best seasons also. I didn't kill a buck but plenty of pigs and doe's. I LOVE HUNTING. 😆
dont worry allen.. its all good man. It happens.. YOu need me there to keep you laughing.. shat happens.
Bright red blood is usually from a muscle hit so the animal could travel very far away!
