He might be pulling your chain. These pictures are on a whole bunch of other websites too.
Those photos have been floating around the net for at least 5 years. They were taken in Gallatin, Montana which is along the border of Yellowstone National Park. While the photos are real, they simply were not taken last year and someone is pulling your leg by claiming they were. Scenes like this used to be really common in the towns around Yellowstone.
But, they are not indicative of what you can see today. Most of the elk herd in that region has been converted into wolf shit. The wolves that the bleeding hearts insisted on transplanting into that area, over the objections of the people that actually live there, have caused the elk herd to decrease by over 75% in the last couple of years.
It's really heartbreaking to go to a place where I used to see elk by the hundreds and not even be able to find a fresh track. And, to make it even worse, the Federal government won't allow the Rocky Mountain states to manage the wolves. They insist on listening to the idiots in California and New York instead of the people on the ground.
